Mina Mina Jukurrpa Ngalyipi (meaning Mina Mina Dreaming) This Dreaming comes from Mina Mina, a very important women’s Dreaming site far to the west of Yuendumu near Lake Mackay and the Western Australian border. In the Dreamtime, ancestral women danced at Mina Mina and digging sticks rose up out of the ground. The women collected the digging sticks and then travelled on to the east, dancing, digging for bush tucker, collecting snake vine and creating many places as they went. Yalka This is the story about June Smith's grandmother’s country where Yalka grow. Yalka is June's totem that she received from her grandmother when she was a baby. The elder would sit on the ground and draw all these stories in the sand for June. It shows the worms that are found around mulga trees and women who are walking and collecting the worms. The worms have two teeth. They are used in ceremony. The country connected with this Dreaming is called Nalurwindi. The custodians of the Dreaming are Japaljarri/Jungarrayi men and Napaljarri/Nungarrayi women and the kurdungurlu – the managers of the Dreaming who have to assure that rituals are performed correctly – are Jakamarra/Jampijinpa men and Nakamarra/Nampijinpa women. Mina Mina Jukurrpa Ngalyipi Napangardi/Napanangka women and Japangardi/Japanangka men are the custodians of the Jukurrpa that created the area. This Jukurrpa or Dreaming story tells of the journey of a group of women who travelled far to the east gathering food, ngalyipi and performing ceremonies as they travelled. Water Dreaming Two Jangala rainmakers unleashed a giant storm travelling with a pamapardu Jukurrpa (termite Dreaming) to a waterhole where a gecko called Yumariyumari blew the storm on to Lapurrukurra and Wilpiri. Bolts of lightning shot out. The kurdukurdu mangkurdu Jukurrpa (children of the clouds Dreaming) created hills at Ngamangama using baby clouds and stuck long pointy clouds into the ground at Jukajuka where they can still be seen today as rock formations.
