Lukarrara Jukurrpa (meaning Desert Fringe-Rush Seed Dreaming)

This Jukurrpa or Dreaming belongs to women of the Nakamarra/Napurrurla and Jakamarra/Jupurrurla men. It depicts lukarrara, a grass with edible seeds that are traditionally ground on a large stone (nganyanu) with a smaller stone (ngalikirri) to make flour. This flour is mixed with water to make bread. Large concentric circles can represent the grass, straight lines the seeds that fall down to the ground and ‘u’ shapes the foraging Karnta or women.
