Mina Mina Jukurrpa Ngalyipi

This Jukurrpa or Dreaming story tells of the journey of a group of women of all ages who travelled gathering food, ngalyipi (snake vine) and performing ceremonies. The women began their journey at Mina Mina where karlangu (digging sticks) emerged from the ground. Far beyond the boundaries of their Warlpiri country are ngalyipi growing up the trunks and limbs of the kurrkara (desert oak trees). It is a sacred vine used as a ceremonial wrap, as a strap to carry parrajas (wooden bowls) and as a tourniquet for headaches.
